WHAT IS A PRESSURE REDUCER USED FOR?
A pressure reducer, according to the EN ISO 2503 standard, is a device that regulates a variable inlet pressure to a constant outlet pressure as much as possible. As its name and description suggest, it is a valve system that adjusts and stabilizes the cylinder gas pressure at the source where it is used to a desired lower outlet pressure.
PRODUCT SELECTION
There are many different types and specifications of pressure reducers available to ensure the desired gas flow rate and pressure. Operational parameters must be considered before purchasing the product to ensure the correct, stable, and sufficient gas flow rate. The following criteria should be considered when selecting a pressure reducer:
1. Type of gas to be used
Gas selection affects not only the connection type but also the internal structure of the pressure reducer and the material suitability of the product depending on the gas type. Even if the connections are suitable, no gas other than the gas type marked on the pressure reducer by the manufacturer should ever be used. Such applications can cause product damage and even potential health and safety threats.
2. Gas pressure
The existing pressure range in the cylinder section and the desired pressure at the outlet of the pressure reducer must be taken into account (inlet pressure and operating pressure). In addition to pressure reducer series suitable for standard cutting, welding, or annealing processes, high-pressure series required for special-purpose applications are also available. Pressure reducers are manufactured with maximum outlet pressure limitations specified in their catalogs for safety reasons. Attention should be paid to this information for correct selection.
3. Gas flow rate
When selecting the appropriate pressure reducer, not only the gas pressure but also the desired gas quantity is equally important. The capacity of the gas source must also be taken into account. To cover the requirements of most industrial applications, different models and flow capacities are available to ensure consistent, efficient, and safe gas regulation.
- In addition to the high level of care and attention shown by designers and engineers in producing a safe pressure reducer, the end user also bears a high level of responsibility.
- Especially in cutting and welding applications, there is a potential hazard due to high gas pressure.
- Contact between oxygen gas and hydrocarbon-containing substances (oil, grease, organic matter, etc.) carries a risk of explosion or fire. Therefore, removing these substances from the environment is the most important factor in creating safe working conditions.
- Mechanical damage to connection parts, gas leaks, and loose parts can cause damage to the system.
- Potential leaks of flammable gases, especially the accumulation of leaked gas over short or long periods, pose a risk of explosion and fire...
- Before starting installation, the compatibility of the pressure reducer, the type of gas to be used, and the required cylinder pressure must be checked.
- Before screwing the pressure reducer onto the tube valve (1), the tube valve should be opened and closed briefly and gently to remove any possible debris from the valve opening. During this process, do not place your hand in front of the tube valve and do not stand in front of the tube valve.
- If the union gasket (2) on the pressure reducer is damaged or missing, it must be replaced with a new one.
- The pressure reducer must be in the closed position before screwing it onto the cylinder valve (1). To check this, turn the pressure adjustment screw (8) counterclockwise.
- Using the appropriate wrench, the inlet connection nut (3) must be securely screwed onto the cylinder valve (1).
- The position of the pressure reducer screwed onto the cylinder valve must be vertical. (The pressure adjustment screw (8) should face the ground and the pressure gauges should face the user).
- The gas hose clamp suitable for the equipment to be used should be connected to the hose connection (7) of the pressure reducer.
